Dorothea Puente Dies in Prison

on March 28, 2011 in Serial Killers by

Dorothea Puente, who was jailed after the bodies of severn of her elderly tenants were found buried in her backyard in Sacramento, died Sunday of natural causes. Puente was 82 years old.

She was convicted in 1993 of three counts of murder. The jury deadlocked during the sentencing phase, which under California law meant she received life without the possibility of parole.

In 2004, Puente published a cookbook, “Cooking with a Serial Killer,” which featured fifty recipes, an interview, and samples of her art. She published it with the help of Shane Bugbee, who is best known for allegedly exploiting the death of Dana Plato by releasing a CD recording of her “dying breath”.

Throughout her time in jail, Puente maintained that she was innocent, and that all her tenants had died of natural causes.
