As investigative reporters tear into Sonny Pierce’s life, we’re beginning to learn some details. One of the more interesting is that police looked at him after the death of his girlfriend’s 17-month-old son.

He was never charged.

Pierce told investigators that Jordan Woods choked inside his apartment. He claimed that the boy reached for him, but he ignored the boy, thinking Jordan only wanted attention.

Jordan passed out from high blood sugar linked to a diabetic condition. He died May 7, 200 at MetroSouth Medical Center. An autopsy found the cause and manner of death to be be inconclusive.

Jordan had previously suffered a broken leg, which Pierce claimed happened when Jordan caught his leg caught in a playpen. Pierce’s mother said the boy had also had his leg mauled by a dog.

A spokeswoman for the Cook County state attorney declined to comment on why charges were never filed.
