Death Penalty Case Against Howard Milton Belcher Restarted
on May 27, 2011 in Serial Killers by Brian CombsHoward Milton Belcher, already serving a life sentence for a murder in 2002, again faces the death penalty. Belcher had the case for the 2002 murder of another man put on hold due to his health.
HIV-positive Belcher had refused to take his medication, and his health was failing.
Said Fulton County Superior Court Judge Wendy Shoob:
This case has lingered because … I was told he would not survive.
The judge instructed attorneys from both sides to discuss resolving the case, or moving forward. They are to report back to him in two weeks.
There is no need in having another trial at the taxpayers’ expense unless he would get the death penalty. But even at that, that would take such a long time with the legal appeals process.
