Joseph Naso to be Allowed Counsel
on July 9, 2011 in Serial Killers by Brian CombsMarin County Superior Court Judge Andrew Sweet ruled Thursday that Joseph Naso has the right to legal counsel, even though he is representing himself. It remains to see who will pay for it, however.
Naso claims that all his assets have been impounded, and that he is indigent. He wants a public defender assigned to advise him during the trial.
Marin County District Attorney Ed Berberian says that Naso has nearly one million dollars in liquid assets. He also claims that $150,000 that was seized by the Nevada Department of Public Safety is available to him simply by writing. As a result, he should not be eligible for publicly funded assistance.
A county public defender has been ordered to meet with Naso to determine if he can afford counsel. The next hearing is scheduled for July 26th.
