Anthony Sowell Sentenced to Deathon August 12, 2011 in Serial Killers by Brian Combs
Judge Dick Ambrose agreed with the jury’s recommendation this morning, and sentenced Anthony Sowell to death. Ambrose imposed the death penalty for all of the eleven murders of which he was convicted, as well as sentencing him to multiple sentences for the dozens of other crimes of which he was convicted.
In all, the sentences added up to more than 250 years in jail.
Family members of his victims also gave statements. In total, they spoke for more than an hour.
Some spoke generally to the court, others pointed their statements directly at Sowell.
Sowell sat with his eyes closed and did not respond in any way. He was made to stand when his sentence was read, but did not respond when Ambrose asked if he understood the sentence.
