Robert Black Guilty of Jennifer Cardy Murder
on October 28, 2011 in Serial Killers by Brian CombsA jury for the Armagh Crown Court in Northern Ireland has found Robert Black guilty of the kidnapping, sexual assault, and murder of 9-year-old Jennifer Cardy. This is his fourth such conviction.
Black was placed in the area where Jennifer disappeared on August 12, 1981 by the use of fuel receipts. Investigators searched through half a million receipts to find Black’s.
Black was charged with Jennifer’s murder on December 16, 2009. The trial lasted six weeks.
Black was convicted for raping a 6-year-old girl in 1990. She received life in prison for that crime.
He was later charged with the murders of Susan Maxwell, Caroline Hogg and Sarah Harper and the attempted abduction of a 15-year-old girl. He was found guilty on all counts and sentenced to a minimum of 35 years.
Investigators suspect he may have killed as many as twelve more young girls before he was caught in 1990.
