Aino Nykopp Appeals Conviction
on November 9, 2011 in Serial Killers by Brian CombsAino Nykopp asked the Helsinki Court of Appeals to strike down her sentence on Monday. She was previously convicted of five cases of murder and five cases of attempted murder and received a sentence of life in prison.
Nykopp was a nurse, and her victims were elderly, bed-ridden patients of the facility that employed her. In most cases, they were killed with high doses of sedatives.
All through the investigation and trial, Nykopp has maintained her innocence.
The Helsinki Court of Appeals will hear 90 witnesses. A decision is not expected until next year.
