A Serial Killer May be Targeting Homeless in Orange County
on January 4, 2012 in Unsubs by Brian CombsThe deaths of three people in Orange County since December 20, 2011 has some investigators wondering if a serial killer is targeting the area’s homeless. While the cases have not been definitively linked, Anaheim police Sargent Bob Dunn sees several similarities:
We haven’t ruled anything out. But it’s still early on … and we’re not using that word yet.
On December 20th at about 8:15pm, James Patrick McGillivray, 53, was stabbed to death in a Placentia shopping center. Surveillance video shows a person of interest dressed in black in the area.
The body of Lloyd Middaugh, 42, was found December 28th in a riverbed bike trail near the 91 Freeway at about 6:15am. He had also been stabbed to death.
Then on December 30th at 5:00pm, Paulus Cornelius Smit, 57, was found dead at the bottom of a stairwell outside a library in Yorba Linda. Like the other two, he had been stabbed.
A joint task force has been formed with members of the police departments of Anaheim, Yorba Linda, and Placentia. The task force is attempting to determine whether the cases are indeed linked.
If you have any potential information on these cases, you are urged to call (714) 765-1944 or email detectives at htf@anaheim.net.
