Itzcoatl Ocampo to be Tried in September

on March 11, 2012 in Alleged Serial Killers by

On Friday, a judge ordered Itzcoatl Ocampo to stand trial for the murders of six people in September. That seems rather quick for such a complex, high-profile case, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it were delayed. I’m also expecting Ocampo’s defense team to request a competency hearing at some point.

After Friday’s hearing, Ocampo’s family expressed concern to his defense attorney, Randall Longwith, about Ocampo’s declining weight. Longwith has said that Ocampo’s behavior his becoming erratic and that he complains of hearing voices.

Deputy District Attorney Susan Price said about Ocampo:

He’s a very intelligent man who acted very rationally during the course of the killings.
