Joseph Naso Hires Advisory Counsel

on March 28, 2012 in Alleged Serial Killers by

Joseph Naso’s on-again, off-again desire for legal counsel is on again. Wednesday, he appeared in court with Michael Marowitz, a veteran defense attorney.

Marowitz will serve as Naso’s advisory counsel. He can help Naso, but cannot speak on his behalf.

Judge Andrew Sweet said he might not allow Marowitz to sit at Naso’s defense table. Instead, he would place Marowitz in the front row of the audience.

Both Naso and Marowitz objected, and Sweet said he would consider it. Said Sweet:

There is hemming and hawing and confusion in the law as to what the parameters of the advisory counsel are.

A trial date was to be set today, but Sweet granted a brief delay because of Marowitz unexpected arrival. Naso is due back in court next Wednesday.

Outside the courtroom, Marowitz declined to say how much Naso was paying him. Naso has claimed that he is destitute, which prosecutors say he has assets in excess of $1 million.
