Irina Gaidamachuk Sentenced for Killing 17 Elderly Women

on June 6, 2012 in Serial Killers by

Irina Gaidamachuk has been given 20 years in prison for the robbery and murder of 17 elderly women. This works out to just over fourteen months per murder.

Between 2003 and when she was caught in June 2010, Gaidamachuk would pose as a social worker, gain entry into her victim’s homes, bash in their heads with a hammer, and then rob them. In total, she stole the equivalent of about £1,000 from her victims.

The 41-year-old mother of two confessed to the crimes and told police:

I did it for money. I just wanted to be a normal mum, but I had a craving for drink.

My husband Yury wouldn’t give me money for vodka.

Investigators originally believed their unsub was a man, due to the brutality of the murders. Even after a potential victim escaped and described Gaidamachuk, it was believed the offender was likely a man dressed as a women.
