Thozamile Taki to be Sentenced January 19
on December 29, 2010 in Serial Killers by Brian CombsThozamile Taki, the so called “Sugarcane Serial Killer”, will be sentenced on January 19. Taki was found guilty last week of murdering 13 women.
Today, both sides were in court to give arguments about the sentencing.
Thulani Shange, Taki’s attorney, attempted to use Taki’s lack of education as a mitigating factor.
At the age of nine his father went to Johannesburg to seek employment and never returned till this day. He was left with his mother who was sick and unemployed. His mother passed away at age 19.
Prosecutor Noxolo Tokwana suggested that Taki receive life in prison for each murder, plus 15 years for each of the robberies.
When looking at sentence the court should look at the seriousness of the case. It is a request of the State the court consider that 13 females were killed who were defenceless, unarmed and trusted the accused.
Evidence shows that some of the families went to loan sharks. The accused has not shown any remorse. His counsel has not said anything. When the victims’ families were crying, he saw it as a joke.
