Gary Hilton’s Trial Underway

on February 2, 2011 in Serial Killers by

The trial of Gary Hilton has begun. The jury is being selected for the murder of Cheryl Dunlap, a nurse at Florida State University. She disappeared December 1, 2007. Her decapitated body was found two weeks later southwest of Tallahassee in the Apalachicola National Forest.

Hilton has already been convicted of the murder of Georgia hiker Meredith Emerson. He is the sole suspect in the murder of two elderly hikers in North Carolina, John and Irene Bryant. All three deaths occurred in 2007.

Jury selection is being slowed by the need to find jurors without knowledge of these other cases. Three dozen potential jurors have been excused because of pretrial knowledge or hardship.
