Paul Reid’s Fate to be Decided by Competency Ruling

on February 15, 2011 in Psychology, Serial Killers by

Convicted serial killer Paul Reid is awaiting the results of yet another competency ruling. His lawyers argue that he should receive a new trial on the grounds that he is incompetent and unable to participate in his own appeals.

Two court appointed doctors have reported that Reid suffers from delusions and psychotic thinking. Prosecutors, on the other hand, state that Reid is an accomplished con man, running a show for the doctors.

They also say it doesn’t matter as the Tennessee Supreme Court has already found him competent.

Both sides were heard on Friday. No ruling is expected for several months.

Reid has been on death row since 1999. Multiple execution dates have been stayed due to legal maneuvering.
