Joseph Edward Duncan III Pleads Guilty to Anthony Martinez Murderon March 17, 2011 in Serial Killers by Brian Combs
Ten-year-old Anthony Martinez disappeared in 1997 while playing with other boys near his home in Beaumont, California. His body was found ten days later in an isolated canyon in Joshua Tree National Monument.
Tuesday, convicted serial killer Joseph Edward Duncan III pleaded guilty to his murder. This was part of a deal to avoid his receiving the death penalty in California.
He is already under a federal death sentence, and having this case pled out may actually speed things up in the federal courts.
Anthony’s mother, Diana Gonzales said:
The last 14 years have been the longest road I’ve ever been on. We waited so long, and I didn’t want to wait any longer. Now we can mourn Tony’s death like we should have in the beginning. When he was buried, we didn’t know who did it.
