Antone Costa was born on August 2, 1944, in Provincetown, Massachusetts. He was born the only child in his family. Costa's father died in WWII, leaving his mother to raise him. His mother remarried when Costa was still young. He later claimed that his step-father would often come into his room at night.
In November of 1961 Costa began his life of crime by sneaking into an apartment in Massachusetts and dragging a teenage girl down the stairs. He was charged with burglary and assault and was sentenced to 3 years probation and given a 1 year suspended sentence. During his probation time he married a 14 year old girl and fathered 3 children.
Costa's murder series is thought to have begun in 1966, at the age of 21, though he was not found guilty of these murders. His known murder series began in 1969, at the age of 24. The victims, which were discovered, were Caucasian females between the ages of 16 and 25. There was not one way in which Costa preferred to murder his victims, he would usually force his victim take drugs then bind them. Costa would use either a gun or a knife to murder his victims. They were all raped both before and after their murders. The remains were found throughout a forest clearing which Costa had been using to grow marijuana. The victims remains had been cut into as many as 8 pieces. Some of the pieces of flesh had teeth marks on them. The remains of his 3 known victims had their hearts removed by Costa. It is not known what Costa did with the hearts.
In March of 1969, Costa was arrested for the murders of 4 women. However, because of a lack of evidence, Costa was found guilty of the murders of 2 women on May 29, 1970. He was sentenced to life in prison. Although Costa was found guilty of 2 murders, it is suspected that he had been involved in the murders of 7 people. On May 12, 1974 Costa committed suicide by hanging himself in his prison cell.
