Clark was born April, 1951 in Troy Connecticut. He was the second of four children in his family. Clark claimed to have began his serial series at the age of 31, but the first victim he was convicted of murdering was at the age of 35.
According to records, Clark was emotionally and physically abused from an early age. His parents fought often in front of him and his mother would dress him in women’s clothing. It is thought that this abuse made Clark more aggressive throughout his life.
Clark claims to have murdered his first victim in 1964, when he was 14 years old. He also admitted to killing many more women and using body parts as fish bait in the sand dunes near his home in Cape Cod.
At the age of 34, Clark was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic and was discharged from the Navy. Clark went onto be arrested for shoplifting women’s underwear. After this arrest, his mother confronted Clark about items missing from their family home, he retaliated by kicking her and attempting to run her over with a truck. He was sentenced to one year probation for assault and battery against his mother.
Clark was hired as a gardener at Penny Houghteling, whom he became very attached to as a mother figure. He became very jealous when her daughter Laura returned home, resulting in her murder.
Clark was sentenced to 30 years in prison for second degree murder in 1993. He later led police to another victims remains in 2000, to which Clark received another 30 year sentence. He currently remains in Montgomery County, Maryland.
