Ian Brady was born on January 2, 1938. He was the only son to his unmarried mother, who later had to give him away.

From a young age Brady was known to enjoy torturing animals. This behavior would worsen after he was accepted into a school for above average student. Brady began torturing and hurting children who were much smaller than himself. After leaving the academy at age 15 he moved in with his mother in Manchester.

After being sentenced to two years in a youth prison for stealing, Brady came out wanting to better himself and became known as quiet and punctual. He began reading Mein Kampf and attempting to speak German.

Brady met his partner in crime, Myra Hindley, in 1961. It is claimed that Brady began to brainwash her and a number of times was known to have drugged her. His serial series began at the age of 25 after moving in with Hindley. Brady would get Hindley to lure children into helping her, then he would sexually assault and later murder them. His victims were all Caucasian and between the ages of 10 and 16. His method of killing would be to use cut with a knife, hit with an axe or to strangle them to death.

Brady was arrested on October 7, 1965. He was sentenced to three life sentences in Durham Prison. In 1985 Brady admitted to the murders of his last two victims and was also declared criminally insane. He was moved to Ashowrth Psychiatric Hospital where he remains today. He is the longest serving prisoner in England.
