Martha Ann Johnson was born in 1955. There is not much known about her past leading up to her murder series.
Johnson’s murder series began in 1977, at the age of 22, and continued until 1982. All of her victims were her children, who were between the ages of 3 months and 11 years old. Johnson murdered each child when she put her 250-pound body on top of them as the slept, which caused them to slowly suffocate. The children were usually taken to the hospital after Johnson had murdered them.
On July 3, 1989 Johnson was arrested for the murder of her eldest daughter, Jenny. Johnson confessed to murdering 2 of her children and claimed that she had murdered them to get back at her husband and to make him return home. She later retracted her confession. On May 5, 1990, Johnson was found guilty of first-degree murder in the deaths of 3 of her children and was sentenced to death. This sentence was later commuted to life in prison.
