Olga Rutterschmidt was born in 1933, and was born in Hungary. It is not known when she moved to the United States, but she became a resident of Hollywood, California.
Before Rutterschmidt’s murder series began, she met her partner in crime, Helen Golay, in the 1980s. It is believed that the two began their criminal careers together after stealing credit cards and purses. They decided that they were not making enough money with petty crimes and so, they started to take out insurance policies under the names of homeless people. They later would murder the homeless people whose identities they would steal.
Rutterschmidt’s murder series began on November 8, 1999 and ended in 2005. Both her and Holay preferred to murder homeless men. The two victims were between the ages of 50 and 73. In both instances, Rutterschmidt and Golay stole the identities of their victims and took out insurance policies years before the murders. After the men were found deceased, the pair would claim millions of dollars. They would run the men over with their cars to cause their deaths. The remains were left at the scene of the crime.
In October of 2006, the women were arrested for two murders and conspiracy to murder. In April of 2008, Rutterschmidt was found guilty for the first-degree murder of Paul Vados and conspiracy to murder Paul and Kenneth McDavid. It is believed that she was also guilty for the murder os Kenneth, but there was not enough evidence. She was sentenced to life in California prison, without the possibility of parole.
