Raymond Fernandez was born on December 17, 1914 in Hawaii. His family moved to Connecticut shortly after.
Fernandez served in Spain’s Merchant Marines and afterwards for British Intelligence. Shortly after leaving British Intelligence, a steel hatch fell on his head, fracturing his skull. According to doctors, this may have affected his behavior after being released from the hospital. He began to answer personal ads placed by women who were lonely. This would be how he met his partner in crime, Martha Beck, in 1947. The couple would later be known as “The Lonely Hearts Killers” because of how they originally met in a lonely hearts ad.
Fernandez began his serial series at the age of 35. Both Fernandez and Beck were arrested on February 28, 1949. They were charged with three murders and sentenced to death. Both were executed by electric chair on March 8, 1951.
