Chase was born on May 23, 1950 in Santa Clara County, California. He was the first born of two children.
According to records Chase showed signs of violence at a very early age. At the age of ten, Chase began to torture and kill animals. As family problems at home worsened, the more Chase became involved with drugs.
Chase saw many physicians for head injuries and stomach aches, and a neurologist claimed that Chase “had a psychiatric disturbance of major proportions.” Chase began to believe that he was reincarnated as an associate of Jesse James. He also began to suffer from somatic delusions.
After Chase injected himself with rabbit blood in 1976, he fell extremely ill. His father took him to American River Hospital, where he later escaped as they considered him a danger to others. Chase was readmitted to the hospital and again released with the diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia.
Among many other incidents with the law, Chase was known to torture animals throughout his lifetime. He was once arrested for killing a cow, stealing the liver and covering himself in the blood. Chase would adopt, steal and buy dogs and once Chase shot a 4 month old puppy and proceded to drink the blood.
Chase was found guilty on all six counts of murder and sentenced to death on May 8, 1979. He later committed suicide by overdosing on his medication on December 24, 1979.
