Tommy Lynn Sells was born on June 26, 1964 in Tennessee. He was born into a family of six children, including a twin sister. His sister died when she was 18 months old when she and Sells contracted meningitis. After recovering from meningitis Sells was moved to his aunt’s house until the age of five. When his aunt inquired about adopting Sells, his mother took him back and continued to neglect him. Sells later claimed that living with his aunt is the only time he was happy in his lifetime. While Sells was living with his mother, at the age of eight, he began to spend time with an older man who was a known pedophile. At the age of 13, Sells went to get a psychiatric evaluation after he tried to rape his mother. He ran away from home and began to steal along to way to make money and ensure he had food to eat. Sells’ serial series is thought to have begun in 1980, at the age of 16. After his arrest he claimed to have murdered a man in 1979 as well, though this was never proven. Sells had no preference as to whether he would kill men or women, children or adults. The ages of his victims range from newborn babies to early 30s. Sells would stab, shoot, beat and strangle his victims to death. On January 2, 2000 Sells was arrested for the murder of Kaylene Harris and the attempted murder of Krystal Surles. He was sentenced to death after being convicted for this murder on September 20, 2000. Sells confessed to have murdered between 20 and 30 people, but only 13 of these murders have been confirmed.
