William Darrell Lindsey was born on March 18, 1935. When Lindsey was 5 months old, his parents were killed in a car accident/ He was adopted and was the youngest of 4 children in his adoptive family. Lindsey had a history of being violent towards his wives and drinking excessively. Prior to his murder series, Lindsey would torture cats for fun.
Lindsey began his murder series in 1988, at the age of 53, and continued until his arrest 1996. All of his victims were females between the ages of 20 to 50 years old. The victims were usually known prostitutes who had addictions to numerous drugs. Nearly all of Lindsey’s victims were raped and then beaten to death. The women were either Caucasian or African American. Some of the victims were mutilated post-mortem with branches that he would find around the scene of the crime. Lindsey did not only have one way to dispose of the remains after a murder. Some of the victims were put into the water and others were posed and left in a place that they would be found.
In 1996, Lindsey was arrested for the murder of Lucy Raymer in North Carolina. After his arrest Lindsey confessed to six other murders. In July of 1999, Lindsey agreed to a plea bargain to avoid the death penalty. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison at the Marion Correctional Institute in Florida.
