Episode 039: Odds & Ends

on July 29, 2011 in Podcast Episodes, Serial Killers, Unsubs by

I’d like to apologize for not having a full-blown episode this week. I spent ten days touring the United Kingdom, and brought home some sort of Welsh head cold with me. Fortunately, it didn’t hit me until the last night we were there, but I have to say, that a nine-hour flight while sick is not fun!

As a result of all this, I got very little work done on the episode on M.O. and Signature. And, I am having some trouble speaking, as I you may be able to tell. I’ll work on the new episode over the weekend, and it’ll be released on August 5th.

In the meantime, I’d like to briefly address some recent news on serial killers. If you don’t wish to listen, you won’t hurt my feelings. If you do listen, I’d love your feedback on whether these little tidbits are interesting. It certainly would be easy enough to add them as a regular feature to the podcast.

The risk with discussing current events like this is that I could be proved wrong before the episode is even released, but that’s also what makes it fun!

Mentioned in the Episode: Fred West, Robert Hansen, Anthony Sowell, Joseph Naso, Rebecca Leighton, Zodiac Killer

Good stuff even with a cold. I think adding current events is a great idea. Oh and a suggestion for a show, which im sure you get plenty of, since your from Texas how a profile on a Texan psychopath. I recently heard of a sk from a town near mine, ive heard both that he was an actual person and a urban legend, so im not actually sure. Any way apperently a man who on his property had an alligator pit or pond and some how lured his victims there and easily disposed of them. Which is how he was able to get away with it for a while. I also heard a movie was based on this guy. Sound familiar? Any info or even better a pod cast would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tony.

      Tony,

      Thanks for the kind words.

You are surely referring to Joe Ball, The Alligator Man. In the early 20th century, he had a saloon in Elmendorf, Texas (south of San Antonio, I believe).

He had a pond with five alligators. Supposedly, he fed various bar maids, girlfriends, and even a wife to the gators.

There’s some question about how much of the story is true and how much is legend.

    Hi Brian!

I agree with Tony. It was a good episode even if you aren’t feeling well. I hope you’re feeling better.

Also I do like the idea of adding current events. I enjoyed it a lot! Keep up the good work.

  • Hi ya says:

I loved the ickle ‘odds & ends’ episode, “MORE PLEASE!” :O)

Don’t know anything about Robert Hansen so looking foreward to that podcast already.

I discovered your podcast by chance and downloaded all the episodes available. I have now caught up and each new episode can’t get to my Ipod quick enough!

Love the fact you really look into each ‘case’ and we get so much information on it.

Keep up the excellent work – and hope you get better soon, after catching one of our good old English colds.

    Hi Brian!

Loved the “Odds & Ends” episode, and would love to hear more of these. It was good to get an SK Podcast “fix” to tide us over until you are feeling better again!

If you ever run out of Serial Killers to profile, may I suggest a couple of Australian ones who were active in the 1990s?

John Wayne Glover “The Granny Killer”, and Ivan Milat “The Backpacker Murderer”.

Although I warn you, the Backpacker Murderer may end up being as long as the Fred & Rosemary West series.. He has a very complex story!!!

If you are interested, there are a few episodes of “Crime Investigation Australia” on YouTube, which examine both these men.

    Keep up the great work,

Definitely please do some current events! Especially when there is a huge trial going on, that would be so interesting to get your take on it. I also enjoyed the Odds and Ends episode. Different, but good.
